As an Air Traffic Controller, when I think about the greatest threat inaviation, my mind immediately goes to a hijacking.
The number of worldwide hijackings from 1990-2021 stands at 298. Aircraft hijackings were once common but are rare today, with only three hijackings since 2021. A bit of trivia: the first hijacking of an airplane occurred in Hungary in 1910. Not to be outdone, America experienced its first hijacking in May of 1928.
The most well-known hijackings occurred on September 11, 2001, when 19 Muslim terrorists hijacked four American Airlines flights.
At 8:46, the first hijacked Airliner crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
The world thought this was just a horrible accident.
At 9:03, the second hijacked Airliner crashed into the south face of the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
The world now knew this was a planned attack against America.
At 9:37, the third hijacked Airliner crashed into the western side of The Pentagon.
At 10:03, the fourth hijacked Airliner crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
There were numerous innocent people and heroes murdered that day; I chose to remember them.
